Sleep Innovations Shiloh 12-inch Memory Foam Mattress Review,Sleep Innovations Shiloh 12-inch memory foam mattress is a great mattress and anyone could find thousands of customer reviews out there to prove that. Shiloh is made with regular memory foam and polyurethane foam. After several years, it’s still not following the trend and insisting on its own way. They’re not replacing regular foam with gel foam, cutting foam into several layers or sending their foam to get Certipur-US seal. Sleep Innovations Shiloh is stubborn, outdated but durable and reliable as they keep their mattresses be manufactured in the USA. That being said, Shiloh is a quality and well made mattress without gel cooling feature and multiple layer design. You could expect heat retention under you and if you sleep hot on other types of mattresses you will feel warmer on this one.
Features of Sleep Innovations Shiloh 12-inch Memory Foam Mattress
Firmness grade: 8-9 (1-10 softest to firmest)
Sleep Innovations describes Shiloh as medium feel, lightly cradling comfort and great for the average to heavy body. Except medium firmness, other descriptions are right. Sleep Innovation Shiloh 12-inch is on the firm side with mildly cradling comfort. It’s not an ideal mattress for lightweight persons because they’re most likely sink little. Like other Sleep Innovations models, Shiloh has a very simple design of only two layers, a 2.5-inch SureTemp layer and 9.5-inch foam base. The combination of thin comfort layer and thick support foam ensures a strong or solid support with slightly contouring comfort. If you’re in the market for a firm mattress, this one is good choice.
Made in the USA & high quality
Mattress market is flooded with China made foam models and only a few brands are made in the USA. There’s no need to debate whether China made products are as good as US made and the result is pretty clear. US-made Sleep Innovations Shiloh meets strictest quality and manufacturing standards in the USA and has superior quality control on their products. You could easily find the difference from customer reviews. Chinese foam mattress review section is full of complaints about quality and durability and many mattresses don’t last for two years. Shiloh also has complaints about durability but very few.
10 year limited warranty details
Sleep Innovations Shiloh has 10 year limited warranty and there’re some important terms you need to know before. It only covers visible decompression more than 1.5 inches but doesn’t do normal increase of softness. The cover may not be allowed to remove or wash and you need to buy an extra waterproof cover to protect mattress. Mattress maintenance is limited to spot cleaning only. It can be used on a traditional box spring, a well ventilated platform bed, or slatted frame (no more than 6” apart). The shipping fee to or from nearest Sleep Innovations factory is at buyer’s cost.
Sure temp or Sure warm
An advertised selling point of Sleep Innovations 12-inch Memory Foam Mattress is its sure temp feature. But it seems to work not very well. Quite a few one and two star reviews focused on hot issue. These customers reported it was warm and hot and they got sweaty when they were sleeping on it. It raised the temperate on the bed rather than regulated it. If you are a sweaty person, you may need to reconsider it. But that isn’t a unsolvable problem. Some owners added additional layers on top like a mattress pad, cotton blanket and a fitted sheet. And that worked perfectly.
Issues of Sleep Innovations Shiloh 12-inch Memory Foam Mattress
Sleep Innovations Shiloh 12-inch Memory Foam Mattress isn’t a perfect mattress. Of course there is no perfect mattress in the world and even Tempurpedic products aren’t exceptions. This mattress also can’t fulfill every single one’s need and that leads to about 15% unsatisfied customers. Among these owners, most complain it’s uncomfortable and too hard. Some of the rest gripes about how it emits a bad gas and some are disappointed at the sure temp feature failure. But these aren’t complaints only Sleep Innovations 12-inch has. These are common complaints among all memory foam mattresses.
Too firm
Some unhappy customers disagree with good reviews. They feel it’s too hard and very unbearable. Some customers repent their decision as the mattress is so stiff that their back pain gets worse rather than better. They don’t get what they expect from good reviews. Some get a 2-inch topper to give it more cushion and it works very well.
Strong Smell
Memory foam comes with strong chemical smell, which is an inescapable issue. There were very few customers complaining smell of Sleep Innovations 12-inch Memory Foam Mattress. But few people complaining doesn’t mean you can ignore it. For some customers, it was a deal breaker. One owner told he was still able to notice the smell even after 5 weeks. Not most people mentioned the similar experience. But if you are very sensitive or can’t bear “new car” smell, it could be an issue. Most customers stated the same experience, which was following the instructions and the smell was gone.
The good
- Good support
- Good for bad back
- Comfortable for most people
- Little motion transfer
- Made in USA
- Affordable price
Sleep Innovations Shiloh VS Zinus 12-inch mattress
Innovations
I’d say Sleep Innovations is a company lacks innovation, especially compared with Zinus. They have only two models, Sleep Innovations Shiloh and Taylor. And they’re firm and firmer. For 12-inch mattress, zinus has multiple versions and firmness to choose such as Green Tea, Gel Green Tea, Ultima Comfort, Cloud-like and foam coil Hybrid. No matter what you like, you can always find one fit you. For example, if you want soft and plushy feel, you can choose Cloud-like; if you don’t like memory foam, they have hybrid mattress.
Quality
Zinus comes from China. Zinus 12-inch mattresses are imported from China. Imported mattresses have a common problem, loose quality control. That’s the source of what many people complain. These issues are easy to find in the negative feedback such as not fully expanding, having strong smell, mold or fiberglass, sagging in a few months, inconsistent firmness, etc. Sleep Innovations is made in the USA. Customer feedback has fully proven the strict quality control. They also receive complaints but very fewer, most about firmness because it’s too firm.
Sleep Innovations Shiloh VS Casper Sleep mattress
Misleading ad
Casper isn’t a brand worth our recommendation. It’s using inaccurate advertisement and information to mislead customers. At the time of this writing, I can still see the image on Amazon saying 100 night risk-free trial. Actually Amazon only offers 30 day return. That makes many customers miss the time frame of return on Amazon. I’m pretty sure the company has seen the customer’s complaint about it but they didn’t remove the misleading image.
Poor quality
More importantly, Casper seems a company good at marketing but not producing. Their quality control isn’t good. You can find those common issues on this like inconsistent firmness and strong smell. The biggest issue many customers complain is it causes back pain after sleep on the Casper mattress. Considering the quality and issues, the price is ridiculous. The mattress only is over $1000.
Shiloh is much better
I’d say it’s one of brands that destroy US-made quality and reputation. It’s a mattress that isn’t supposed to be worth $1000 no matter which aspect we look at from. Sleep Innovations Shiloh is 10 times better than Casper.
Can this mattress work with an adjustable bed frame?
No, that will reduce lifespan and comfort. Some brands stated that using on adjustable bed will make warranty invalid.
I heard some memory foam mattresses lose firmness as time goes by, is it true?
Yeah, memory foam mattress loses firmness gradually but slightly and it becomes soft after years of use.
I’m hot natured and sweating heavily. I’m wondering if the suretemp feature works very well.
Suretemp isn’t that good as advertised so the gel foam comfort layer would be better.
Has anyone owned this mattress for an extended period of time? Is it still comfortable and none sagging?
From owner experience, it doesn’t have any problem in durability.
Are you serious? This mattress doesn’t include any gel foam?
Yes, Shiloh doesn’t have gel foam but Marley and Taylor do. They’re great too.
